sustainableIn September 2015, the United Nations (UN) member states adopted the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), seventeen global goals each with specific targets to be achieved over the next fifteen years. Overall objectives of the SDGs are to end poverty, transform lives, and protect the planet. Friends Fiduciary and the Global Health Group of the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) recognize the critical role played by leading pharmaceutical companies to attain the SDGs. One in particular, Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, ties closely to each of the seventeen SDGs, as health underpins every development issue. So FFC with 48 other members of the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility, sent letters to ten leading pharmaceutical companies pointing out the challenges and significant opportunities presented by the SDGs and goal three specifically. The letter, among other things, raised awareness of the need for vaccines and for treatment of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, hepatitis C, neglected tropical diseases and diabetes that impact the health of millions. As a socially responsible investor, Friends Fiduciary understands the potential risks and rewards involved with this issue. We will continue to dialogue with management, as shareholders, to pursue the preparation of goals and action plans, the assessment of the impact of their actions, and external reports of their findings and outcomes.
